Celebrating Birthdays

This weekend we went to Cadillac, MI (where Curt's family lives) to celebrate Ben's 1st birthday and our nephew Jacob's 8th birthday. The weekend was jam packed with tons of fun! My sister made a cake for Ben's party. We picked it up in Grand Rapids on the way to Cadillac. It was so cute and delicious!
These were the plates we used. The teddy bear cake matched the one on the plate.

He decided to give it a try (after a lot of encouragement), but he really never got into it. He didn't even want to touch it too much with his hands. I guess he has it ingrained in his brain that mommy doesn't really like messes. :)

Later in the day, Jacob opened his presents. He got a Tiger Woods game that he started playing right away! I like how there are so many cameras flashing at him. :)
Another present...we got him Hoosiers. He had a basketball party and Betsy made a cool basketball cake. We had two cakes in one day...I think we had enough sugar to last us a while.

I'm glad we had time to make sugar cookies together. Christmastime does not seem complete without them. I frosted the cookies while Ben and Curt decorated.  Lots of sprinkles and chocolate chips!  Ben loved getting slippers and a robe with his "Christmas Eve" jammies. He does love to be cozy. We decided to move up our present opening a day early because we thought I might end up in the hospital on Christmas. But, today is the 27th and still no baby. So we were a bit off on that one.  Santa brought the Lewis Hamilton car that Ben had asked him for. He was very excited!  The new pirate ship has been a favorite. He has played with it a TON a last few days.  Ben also got a few more pirate dress-up things. I've heard "Aarg!" a lot lately. :)  My parents came yesterday for a visit since my dad has this week off of work. We're hoping that I'll have the baby while they are here, but I'm not sure that is going to happen since they head home tomorrow. Ben ...

The Big 3-0!

Today I turned 30 years old. I didn't think that it would make me feel old, but it kinda does. :) I had a wonderful birthday. Curt went out and got us donuts for breakfast. Then, I got to open my presents. He did a great job shopping and I love everything he picked out! For lunch we went out to Olive Garden and then stopped by the mall for a little while. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing at home. I hope this getting older doesn't mean that gray hairs are going to start showing up! While I got ready this morning, Curt got out his old car track. He hasn't used it in many years, so he wasn't sure if it would work. Ben loved watching the cars race around the track. We enjoyed eating lunch at Olive Garden. Ben was too interested in coloring to look up at the camera. I love cheesecake for my birthday and Curt made this one for me all by himself. It is a chocolate chip recipe that is one of my favorites. He only added one candle per decade...we didn't ...
