Ben's Birthday Party in GR

We celebrated Ben's 5th birthday this past weekend with my family in Grand Rapids. It's been a while since we got stuck in a traffic jam, but Friday night on the way we got trapped in a big mess on I-94. We moved about a mile in 1.5 hours. Not fun. We found out there was a 12 car pile up. I'm thankful that we weren't involved in that accident. It is not fun to add that much time to a trip with two little kids in the car.

Saturday afternoon, Ben had fun with his Mario/Luigi party. My brother Jake made Toad cake pops and chocolate mustaches. My sister made Ben's cake and it had a few Mario Kart cars that he got to keep. He loved that!

 Ben had to try out his policeman stuff and arrest his cousin Molly.
This one is from Monday. Lucy loves to stand up by everything lately. She is still a little wobbly, so it really scares me. I'm not ready for a walker. I can hardly keep up with her crawling! :)

I'm glad we had time to make sugar cookies together. Christmastime does not seem complete without them. I frosted the cookies while Ben and Curt decorated.  Lots of sprinkles and chocolate chips!  Ben loved getting slippers and a robe with his "Christmas Eve" jammies. He does love to be cozy. We decided to move up our present opening a day early because we thought I might end up in the hospital on Christmas. But, today is the 27th and still no baby. So we were a bit off on that one.  Santa brought the Lewis Hamilton car that Ben had asked him for. He was very excited!  The new pirate ship has been a favorite. He has played with it a TON a last few days.  Ben also got a few more pirate dress-up things. I've heard "Aarg!" a lot lately. :)  My parents came yesterday for a visit since my dad has this week off of work. The Big 3-0!

Today I turned 30 years old. I didn't think that it would make me feel old, but it kinda does. :) I had a wonderful birthday. Curt went out and got us donuts for breakfast. Then, I got to open my presents. He did a great job shopping and I love everything he picked out! For lunch we went out to Olive Garden and then stopped by the mall for a little while. We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing at home. I hope this getting older doesn't mean that gray hairs are going to start showing up! While I got ready this morning, Curt got out his old car track. He hasn't used it in many years, so he wasn't sure if it would work. Ben loved watching the cars race around the track. We enjoyed eating lunch at Olive Garden. Ben was too interested in coloring to look up at the camera. I love cheesecake for my birthday and Curt made this one for me all by himself. It is a chocolate chip recipe that is one of my favorites. He only added one candle per decade...we didn't ...
