Decorating Pumpkins
It's sad when the season of fall passes without decorating pumpkins, but that is exactly what happened to us last year. This year I did not want miss out on the fun because Ben is at a perfect age for this kind of stuff and I really enjoy it. We traveled the last two weekends to celebrate Ben's birthday with each of our families, so this was our last opportunity before Halloween on Wednesday.
I took Ben to the store on Friday and let him pick whatever "kit" he wanted to decorate his pumpkin. He decided that he did not want to have us carve a face/design and instead chose a set of pirate stickers. I have never painted a pumpkin (crazy I know :)), so he picked out a black cat kit for both of us to work on for my pumpkin. We made sure to also pick up a carving knife for Curt (I can't seem to find the 10 we already own), since he always likes to carve a face into his pumpkin.
We had a really fun time working on the pumpkins this morning. I think it worked really well to have a variety of ways to decorate the pumpkins. As a bonus, my hand did not get worn out from carving this year!
Our 3 pumpkins...Ben and I painted mine the night before so it would be dry for the stickers today.
Working on the pirate pumpkin.
I think it turned out really cute. I did have to add some hot glue to really get the stickers to stay put.
Starting our work on the cat pumpkin.
Lucy stayed pretty happy in the exersaucer while we worked.
A pretty good lookin' cat. I might have to use paint/stickers again next year. :)
One strange fact about me...I really like cleaning out the inside of the pumpkin. I think it's fun to stick my hands in the slimy stuff. Ben DID NOT want to help at all. He said it was gross!
I tried to get him to pose for a silly picture where it looked like I was going to put some pumpkin guts on his head. He was not into that idea at all.
Trying to put the pumpkin top on my head. :)
Curt putting the finishing touches on his masterpiece.
What a happy jack-o-lantern!
Our pumpkins ready to greet you on the front porch.
