Disney trip: Day 1 (Travel Day)

On Sunday, June 5th, we left Fort Wayne for our Disney World vacation. This vacation has been in the works for a couple of years. We wanted to wait until Lucy was a little older, so that we didn't have to worry about diapers or early days of potty training. At 8 and 4, Ben and Lucy were both at great ages to go. Our kids have never been on an airplane, so that part of the trip was also an exciting adventure. I tend to get a bit motion sick on planes...so I wasn't sure this was going to go well. We had to take two flights to get there and that usually makes it worse for me. I was hoping for one flight, but the Fort Wayne airport is pretty small, so that was not an option.

Here we are at the airport ready to start the journey. The kids were super excited to ride a plane!

After we left Fort Wayne, we headed to Detroit. Our flight couldn't land right away because of a storm over Detroit. By the time we got to the gate we had about 20 minutes to race across the Detroit airport to catch our flight to Orlando. It was CRAZY! I was feeling a bit sick from the bumpy flight and now we were running with two kids and our backpacks hoping to make it to Disney. We made it just in time and got settled for our longer flight to Orlando.

The Orlando flight seemed to be going smoothly. We had screens on the backs of the seats and everyone was happily watching a movie. Then, as it was getting close to time to land, the pilot mentions that there is a storm over Orlando and we cannot land yet. We ended up being in the air over an extra hour. By the time we landed, we were all pretty tired and hungry. We grabbed some food at the airport, got our luggage, and headed to the Magic Express that would take us to Disney. It was around a 40 minute drive to reach our resort. By the time we got to the Caribbean Beach Resort, it was after 9:00. We were TIRED. It was dark and rainy. I think all of us were just ready for bed. After we finally got settled in our room, I had to unpack and organize our stuff, so that we were be ready to head to Hollywood Studios in the morning. Sometime after 11 or 11:30 we turned off the lights and headed to bed. We were excited to wake up and have some Disney fun in the morning!
