Family Time

Yesterday, we enjoyed a beautiful morning at the zoo. We went to church Saturday night, so we thought the zoo would be a fun way to have some family time. It was a little chilly at first (only in the 50's), but it felt so nice after a HOT summer. I didn't mind having to wear my sweatshirt. By the afternoon it warmed up and we were all in shorts once again.

Since the zoo rides are only $1 during the month of Sept, we decided to try the Sky Ride. I never wanted to go on it alone with Ben because the idea of being that high up without him belted in makes me nervous. He sat really still and Curt had his arm around him the whole time. I don't usually have a problem with heights, but Curt & I both decided that will probably be our one attempt at that ride. It just felt way too high (with Ben) with only a bar to keep us from falling. Yikes!

Here's Ben at the beginning of the ride. He was a little anxious. After the ride was finished, he did say it was his favorite. I'm not sure I believe that after all his nervous looks during the ride.
Curt enjoying the ride.
This is the view in front of us as the ride started. I put my camera away after this because I was really worried I would drop it. It felt VERY HIGH!
Ben took Curt for a spin in this cool jeep after we were done with the Sky Ride.
We saw lots of animal starting with some monkeys.
Pelicans
Bat-Eared Foxes
Bill, the lion
The giraffes were not interested in eating when we first arrived. Ben was bummed because that is one of his favorite parts. After we watched them for a few minutes, one of them started walking closer, so I quickly got a piece of lettuce for Ben. He was able to feed Jelani  and was so excited!
Sea Lions
Otters
Curt & Ben got some corn so that they could feed the ducks and geese.
Last stop...brushing the goats.

I thought it would be fun to go out to lunch after the zoo, but we weren't sure that Ben would be okay unless he used a potty at the zoo. He's been doing AWESOME at home, but he's still nervous of big potties. On Saturday night, he had used the little one in his Sunday School class and I think that gave him some confidence. I asked him if he could try to use the potty at the zoo and then we could go out to lunch. He said yes right away. He used the potty just fine and away we went! We decided to eat at Carlos O'Kelly's because we hadn't been there in a while.
Curt & Ben eating chips and salsa. I think someone forgot to look at the camera. :)

Looks like a wonderful day for the zoo. I think I want to try again when it's not so hot...much more enjoyable w/o the sweat :)That ride would have been too high for me also, tho I'm sure dad & Jacob would like it.Glad Ben got to feed the giraffe.Give him a hug & smooch from us.....Love, Mom
Yah for Ben and all his outings without a diaper or pull up! I'm glad you're all able to get out for family outings and church! That's sweet that he used the potty at church too! :) So much nicer, isn't it? He's doing a great job! I'm so proud of him! ;)
